The Malinauskas Labor Government’s commitment to upgrading and ensuring the state’s public schools are of the highest quality, continues with the release of designs for the redevelopment of Roma Mitchell Secondary College.

The $20.9 million election commitment will deliver additional student capacity to meet future growth and improve student facilities and amenities.

This latest investment comes on the back of a $5 million redevelopment at Nailsworth Primary School set to begin before the end of this year.

A key component of the upgrade includes a new, state-of-the-art gymnasium – with the principal, governing council and school community closely involved in the concept and project development.

Through this consultation, the project has been refined to include the multi-functional two-court gymnasium to meet international competition standards including sports storage, new integrated learning areas, a canteen and cafeteria to service the gymnasium and the girls’ campus, and new changerooms.

The revised scope will result in the school’s capacity being increased by 180 places, thereby increasing the school’s total capacity to 2114. Projected enrolments for 2029 are about 1450 students, with the total capacity allowing for further growth in the northern suburbs over the coming decades.

The new Gymnasium will go a long way in ensuring that our students have access to a multipurpose state-of-the-art facility that can be used for a range of activities.

It also means that with the increase in student numbers, a lot more students have access to indoor facilities, especially in times of extreme weather conditions.
