With the vast array of toys, knick-nacks and gadgets available each year at the Royal Adelaide Show, we need to ensure any potentially dangerous items are modified or removed prior to sale.
Each year, officers from Consumer and Business Services painstakingly check every show bag to ensure the items that go on sale do not pose a safety risk and meet any mandatory product safety requirements.
This year, they’ve evaluated more than 1840 products from 400 showbags with a number of safety concerns addressed before the gates opened yesterday.
Issues addressed include a button battery compartment on a doll, cosmetics provided without ingredients and incorrectly labelled sunglasses.
CBS officers will continue to check items being supplied by stall holders at the show to ensure that products meet applicable mandatory standards and consumers heading to this year’s Royal Adelaide Show are encouraged to report any product safety concerns.
If you have a safety concern in relation to a consumer product, including toys, products containing button or coin batteries, or other novelties, please report them to CBS at https://www.cbs.sa.gov.au/contact-cbs or call 131 882
