Respected prosecutor Carmen Matteo SC has been appointed to the District Court.

Ms Matteo worked at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for more than two decades and was appointed Senior Counsel last year.

Carmen Matteo is an outstanding lawyer, and an excellent addition to the District Court.

As a prosecutor, she has proven herself time and time again as someone who can understand the nuance of detailed, complex criminal matters.

She has also shown great sensitivity and compassion when working with vulnerable victims – especially in the prosecution of sex offences often involving complainants who are children.

I look forward to her making a significant contribution in her time on the bench and congratulate her on her appointment.
