The Malinauskas Labor Government will fund new measures to improve public safety in Port Augusta, including upgrading the city’s CCTV cameras.
The $200,000 grant will also assist the Port Augusta City Council in undertaking a Central Business District (CBD) Community Safety Audit aimed at addressing local safety concerns by directly engaging with residents and businesses.
The findings from the audit will inform the upcoming Port Augusta CBD Masterplan, along with the strategic development of safety initiatives and urban enhancements.
Funding will enable Council to upgrade the city’s CCTV infrastructure, supporting the installation of 22 new cameras.
The funding builds on the South Australian and Federal Government’s $12 million Port Augusta Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan announced earlier this year.
Port Augusta’s CBD became the first Declared Public Precinct outside metropolitan Adelaide in October to enhance safety for residents and visitors by tackling anti-social behaviour, youth crime, and alcohol-related issues.
