Under the leadership of the Malinauskas Labor Government, South Australia’s economy is trending in the right direction and according to ANZ, is the standout performer to start 2025.
In the major bank’s Stateometer Report for Quarter 1 2025, South Australia was the best performing jurisdiction.

The report stated:
SA was the standout. The state’s rapid acceleration was driven by tight labour market conditions
*ANZ Stateometer – Q1 2025
The ANZ Stateometer is a set of indicators measuring economic performance across Australia’s states and territories. It shows annual growth relative to each state or territory’s trend growth rate.
It covers a wide range of indicators including consumer, business, housing, labour and trade sectors.
South Australia registered the strongest rise in hours worked nationwide, while inflation fell below the national average.
ANZ suggests the growth in quarter one was driven by increased consumption and investment. ANZ also notes whilst the State’s population has increased, housing price growth has eased.
This result follows recent Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data which revealed a record 975,700 South Australians are employed, an increase of over 11,200 on the previous month.
The result means there’s over 75,000 more South Australians employed now than at the time of the 2022 State Election.
