The Liberal Government is urging South Australians to get behind women’s sport this weekend as Adelaide hosts the Women’s Australian Open and the Adelaide Lightning gets set to take on Canberra in the grand final decider on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, the Adelaide Crows take on the Geelong Cats in the AFLW at Norwood Oval for Round 3.
Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink wished the Adelaide Lightning good luck on their Game 3 grand final decider against the UC Capitals in Canberra on Saturday.
“I’d like to wish the Adelaide Lightning the best of luck on their grand final decider on Saturday after their thrilling, nail-biting win here in Adelaide on Wednesday night,” said Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink.
“While our girls take on Canberra in Canberra, Adelaide is hosting the Women’s Australian Open at The Grange Golf Club this weekend so if you love golf or just love sport, it would be great to get behind the women who are playing here from all over the world.
“Good luck also to the Adelaide Crows when they take on the Geelong Cats in the AFLW at Norwood Oval on Saturday.
“It’s just fantastic to see so many talented and driven women in Adelaide that are no doubt inspiring the next generation of young girls as they watch their idols.”
The Liberal Government is dedicated to fostering women’s sport in South Australia and is investing $10 million over the next two years on grassroots community sporting clubs, with a focus on female and family-friendly infrastructure.
In December last year, the government increased its support of women’s sport in SA through a one-off $275,000 sponsorship of the Adelaide Crows AFLW team.
The funding will be used through pathways and development programs for young women across the state wanting to take up the sport.
